Orla Walsh – Cyclist from Dublin, Ireland

First of all, thanks for all the messages!! I’m OK – I’ve joined the broken collarbone club which means I’m officially a real bike racer (or just a bad bike racer 😂). I received an overwhelming number of messages from you all and I really appreciate the concern. 🙏
I made a rookie mistake today during a track race and stopped pedaling on a fixed gear bike after a full gas sprint – track bikes don’t like that and I was promptly thrown off in summersault fashion landing hard on my left side and cracking my helmet. It could have been much worse so I’m thankful for that. Thanks to cycling Ireland coach @delahaye.snapshot for accompanying me to the hospital and for making me feel like less like a complete idiot for my mistake. And to @theswiftcyclist for patching up my wounds on site. Also, sorry to the rest of the team for traumatising you all! 😂 The staff at the hospital were excellent and I was in and out in less than two hours. 👌
I’ll be in recovery mode for the next while with all my sessions on the turbo while still in a sling. On the bright side though, I won the race – totally worth it 😎
