Driver who killed cyclist on St. Johns Bridge gets 3.5 years
Driver Joel Schrantz, 42, hears from the widow of cyclist Mitchell York on Wednesday, May 17, 2017. Schrantz was driving with balding tires when he fishtailed into York. Schrantz apologized Wednesday, then was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison.
Drunk, speeding Corvette driver gets 6 years for killing cyclist
Willard Tow, 61, swerved into a bike lane, killing cyclist Andrzej Kurkowski, 77, on Multnomah Blvd. in SW Portland. Tow’s blood alcohol was .28 percent, and he had been braking when he struck Kurkowski at 55 mph, according to the prosecution. Tow was sentenced Monday, May 22, 2017.
